JUMPJUMPTOKYO is pleased to announce KINJO’s new solo show in BLOCKHOUSE : 'SECRET SEWER'.
Kinjo will present a new series of paintings.
The exhibition will be from the 4th of November to the 13th of November 2022.
Join us at the reception party on Friday the 4th from 6pm to 9pm to discover the beautiful artworks of KINJO.

BIO KINJO

Born in Tokyo, currently based and works in Tokyo. With roots in Okinawa, KINJO has been creating paintings, sculptures, and performances based on American pop culture, which has deep ties to Okinawa, and in Japan. In the process of repeatedly drawing and erasing motifs such as eyes glowing in the dark, cereal packages, and snakes, the outlining context becomes blurred and ambiguous, and like the artist’s own portraits, they are transformed into something personal with a charming appearance. His works can be seen as a self portrait, or a documentation of exploring his own roots.

It will open on the 18th of November 2022 in Jingumae, Tokyo.
It will feature exhibitions every month.

Biography

1974年横浜生まれ千葉育ち。血液型0型。中村穣二は身体を使った躍動的なストロークのペインティングを特徴として、東京、パリ、オランダ、台湾など国内外で展覧会を開催している。作家集団”SSS”の一人でもあり、また他の作家と共に前衛的かつ実験的なパフォーマンスを発表し、数々の話題となる展覧会に参加。画家としての活動の他、展覧会のキューレーター、アートマガジンの編集者として、現代のアートシーンに新しい才能を紹介している。

Born in Yokohama in 1974 and raised in Chiba. Blood type O. Nakamura’s works are known for his characteristic paintings with dynamic strokes using his body. He has held exhibitions in Japan and abroad, including Paris, the Netherlands, and Taiwan. He is one of the members of the artist group “SSS” and has participated in a number of high-profile exhibitions with other artists, presenting avant-garde and experimental performances. In addition, as an exhibition curator and an editor of art magazines with his keen eyes, Nakamura has been introducing new talents to the contemporary art scene.

Enfant, Joji Nakamura suit avec émerveillement le travail de sa mère calligraphe. Cependant l’intérêt de Joji Nakamura pour l’art ne se déclenche véritablement qu’à Santa Barbara, en Californie. Il y découvre les travaux de ses amis artistes japonais – parmi les plus reconnus de la scène contemporaine japonaise et se reconnait dans leur style de vie. Joji Nakamura décide d’apprendre la peinture par lui-même et s’y jette à corps perdu.
Travaillant pendant plus de quinze ans en noir et blanc – comme sa mère –, c’est en 2017 que ses amis le convainquent de se saisir de tubes de couleurs et de les utiliser sur la toile.
